Sounds and images always carry certain signs and can have a calming function. Many Russians like to use a variety of meditative melodies. And some even turn on the sounds of the surf for their children before going to bed. Scientists have confirmed that nature videos can really calm anyone in a matter of minutes. Scientists from the American state of Utah decided to conduct an experiment in a confined space and selected prisoners for this. In prisons, audio-visual aids for people are the only way to relieve stress, Medical Xpress reports.
During the experiment, participants were given three minutes of video and audio to watch and listen to. The fragments represented forest, mountains, oceans and streams. At the same time, scientists were making measurements on two indicators. Cortisol in saliva (it responds to changes in stress) and galvanic activity of the skin (unconscious changes in the electrical properties of the skin) were monitored.
Exposure to video and audio reduced the stress level of prisoners who had previously complained of stress.
“Viewing images of nature can be useful for other groups of the population deprived of nature,”
Scientists have come to other interesting conclusions. First, videos are generally more powerful than sounds.
Secondly, it was found that people do not feel the difference between audio and video, so they do not prefer video.
