New Year's songs can have a negative impact on the human psyche, scientists said. They told the Busines Insider about the consequences.

According to experts, listening to the same composition first lifts the mood, and then, on the contrary, slows down the brain. The brain becomes oversaturated, it impairs focus and increases stress levels in the body. For example, the famous songs “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”, according to the study, cause boredom and annoyance. Plus, many of the songs remind people of upcoming spending, experts said.

“It's better to turn off the Christmas music in stores, because if you don't, it will really prevent shoppers from focusing on something else. They'll just waste all their energy trying not to hear it, ”said clinical psychologist Linda Blair. She recommended stocking up on earplugs and distracting from obsessive music with pleasant aromas.

Earlier, residents of Russia named their favorite New Year songs. The first place was taken by the composition “A Christmas tree was born in the forest”, for which 16 percent of the respondents voted. Of the foreign compositions, the songs Happy New Year performed by ABBA, Last Christmas from Wham !, and Jingle Bells scored two percent of the votes each.
