Climate change could lead to the disappearance of entire island countries in the Pacific region, according to scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Nations such as Kiribati, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands have long been adversely affected by high tides from global warming. These countries are also experiencing prolonged droughts, severe cyclones and salinization of groundwater, causing great damage to the agricultural industry, writes The Guardian.
In addition, scientists note an increase in the level of the World Ocean, as a result of which the island states are gradually sinking under water. These territories will become uninhabitable in the future, the IPCC said.
As the site kp.ru wrote, earlier scientists said when global warming threatens to lead to the extinction of 60% of fish.
