Experts from the University of Maryland and Northwestern University in the United States conducted a joint study, according to which, by 2100, 95% of the world's oceans will significantly change habitat conditions, due to which all creatures living on the ocean surface will begin to die out.
Scientists have simulated climatic conditions over several time periods with an estimate of the carbon footprint. Based on these estimates, two global scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions were constructed. According to the first scenario, the release will continue until 2050 – this will affect climate and living conditions on 36% of the ocean surface. According to the second, emissions will continue for another 80 years, which will lead to an almost complete change in conditions – 95% of the ocean will become warmer and oxidized, most of the minerals necessary for the life and development of marine flora and fauna will disappear. Even migration will not help the inhabitants of the oceanic surface due to such a global change.
The only “cure”, according to scientists, is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint.
