Planet Earth is on the verge of a new ice age, said geophysicist, meteorologist, climatologist Sergei Smyshlyaev, commenting on the statement of the chief researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Chernokulsky that global warming will return the Earth to temperatures that were 35 million years ago.
According to Smyshlyaev, the Earth is now in the stage of entering the Little Ice Age.
“There are many cycles, with periods of millions or hundreds of thousands of years. Everyone is talking about global warming, and if we talk about long cycles, we are at the stage of entering the Little Ice Age, “said the specialist in an interview with Ura.ru.
Smyshlyaev's colleague Konstantin Gribanov agreed with his statement about entering the Little Ice Age, but noted that there would be no cooling due to greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere.
As Rambler reported earlier, Alexander Chernokulsky, a senior researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that if the current level of atmospheric emissions remains, the temperature will return the planet about 35 million years ago, when giant rhinos lived.
