In ancient Greek mythology, there is a story about how the Achaeans could not take Troy and decided to do it by trick: they left a huge wooden horse at the walls of Troy, pretended to float away, and they themselves hid the soldiers inside the structure. A recent discovery by scientists suggests that this may not be just a legend.
Fragments of a possible Trojan horse were found during excavations on the Hisarlik hill. These are dozens of spruce boards and beams up to 15 meters long. They were all assembled in a strange shape, scientists thought that it could be a Trojan horse.
Researchers studied the finds and came to the conclusion that wooden parts and other artifacts date from the 12th or 11th century BC. This coincides with the dates of the Trojan War. In addition, scientists have found a damaged bronze tablet with the inscription “Returning home, the Greeks dedicate this offering to Athena.”
Naked Science notes that if this is all confirmed, then we can say that the largest discovery in recent decades has been made in archeology.
