Information about the latest scientific work of specialists from several countries appeared on the network. Experts from Israel, Italy and the United States analyzed the archaeological finds and recreated the Earth's magnetic moment that existed in the Neolithic on the basis of the data obtained.
In the field of interest of scientists were 129 tools made of flint and fragments of ceramics, writes Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Their age ranges from 8 to 10 thousand years. According to experts, information about the magnetism of the past remains in them in a “frozen” form.
Under laboratory conditions, they were able to “extract” ferromagnetic minerals from tiny crystals. As a result, the researchers found out that during the Neolithic period the magnetic moment was relatively small, which means that the magnetic field of our planet was like that.
According to scientists, the discovery they made is important because it shows a gradual decrease in the Earth's magnetic moment. This means that at a certain stage it can completely lose its protective field.
