Scientists have raised the embryo of a hybrid of a human and a crab-eating macaque

by alex

For the first time in history, molecular biologists have grown an embryo that contains both human cells and cynomolgus macaque cells.

Scientists said that almost all attempts to create chimeras between humans and other animals ended in nothing. The fact is that human cells do not take root well in such embryos. If it is possible to create viable chimeras, then they can be used for transplantation.

The researchers used a device that allows monkey embryos to be kept alive for a long time outside the womb. Scientists have created several hundred macaque embryos. They were injected with 25 human stem cells.

Most of the embryos developed normally for more than two weeks. The proportion of human cells in them almost did not decrease.
