Scientists have proven the effectiveness of “Sputnik V” against the severe form of the “delta” strain

The Russian Sputnik V vaccine effectively protects against the severe form of COVID-19 and is well resistant to the delta strain. This is evidenced by the results of an independent study of scientists from St. Petersburg, which leads the journal Science.

This study involved almost 14 thousand patients with symptoms of coronavirus infection and an already confirmed diagnosis, who were examined by computed tomography in medical centers in the northern capital. Of these, 1,291 people were fully vaccinated at least two weeks before the start of the survey.

At the same time, the researchers did not consider cases of incomplete vaccination and did not compare different vaccines, they proceeded from the fact that about 96% of all vaccinated in the city received the Sputnik V vaccine. It turned out that the drug of domestic development reduces the risk of hospitalization by 81% and prevents serious damage to the lungs in 76% of cases.

“Our data confirm that one of the benefits of vaccination is to reduce the severity of the disease in cases of breakthrough,” – epidemiologist Anton Barchuk.

Earlier, Argentine scientists came to the conclusion that antibodies produced after vaccination with “Sputnik V” increase their effect over time.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health of Russia has registered another drug for the prevention of coronavirus infection – “EpiVacCorona-N”.
