As it became known, American scientists from Purdue University were the first to synthesize a natural compound capable of suppressing the activity of a tumor protein. The same protein that makes many cancers difficult to cure.
We are talking about a compound called curcusone D. According to Phys.org, researchers know the anti-cancer properties of curcusones A, B, C and D – they were tested on breast cancer cells. A recent experiment showed that it is the group D compound that effectively inhibits the activity of the BRAT1 oncoprotein. It, in turn, restores the DNA of cancer cells and enhances the survival of malignant tissues.
The researchers noted that the combination therapy, which includes DNA-damaging drugs and curcusone D, is more effective than either compound alone.
