British scientists have developed a formula that can calculate a patient's chances of surviving a coronavirus infection. Writes about this The Mirror.
Scientists believe that this will save many lives, as it can make the treatment method more personalized. The Risk Assessment Tool will divide patients into four distinct groups, ranging from low to very high. In the first category, the risk of death occurs in every hundredth case. In the latter category, up to 62 out of a hundred patients can die.
It is noted that experts included such parameters as age, gender, number of pre-existing diseases, respiratory rate and the results of two blood tests in the formula. At the same time, the researchers pointed out that the mechanism for determining the risk of death can only be used in case of hospitalization of the patient.
Researchers collected clinical data and tested coronavirus patients at 260 hospitals in England, Wales and Scotland between February and May. Then the accuracy of the development was confirmed based on the data of 22 thousand patients hospitalized from the end of May to the end of June.
In July, American doctors found that being overweight was responsible for the increased mortality among patients with coronavirus. The risk group included obese patients under 65 years of age. However, it turned out that being underweight is also a risk factor.
