Experts from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore have found a way to use sunflower pollen to create a microgel. This invention will allow in the future to create environmentally friendly biomaterials for medical 3D printing.
It turned out that the gel obtained from sunflower pollen, strong and flexible, retains its shape when applied to the surface. Scientists have added hyaluronic acid and collagen to it. Based on this material, they printed a polymer used in cell regeneration – bioskaffold. which showed an efficiency of 97% – it is filled with cells with further formation of biological tissue. Such efficiency is shown only by expensive materials, for the production of which more time and effort are required.
Overall, as the research team notes, the sunflower pollen microgel has shown potential as an alternative to all existing medical bioprinting materials. In addition, these results could open doors for the creation of flexible membranes that closely follow the contours of human skin, such as patches. for bandaging wounds or face masks. Experts will continue their research.
