Scientists have identified a symptom of COVID-19, which is characteristic only of the male population, according to Express.
Experts from the University of Texas have found that the coronavirus can infect the testes. According to them, there were previously recorded cases when patients complained of pain in the groin area, and some reports indicated a decrease in their testosterone levels.
University scientists have conducted a corresponding study on hamsters. Within a week, they found the virus in the testes of all infected rodents, but then its concentration decreased.
The authors of the work suggest that men with mild to moderate disease may experience the same symptoms. In the future, they intend to simulate conditions associated with severe COVID-19.
Earlier it was reported that scientists have also revealed the ability of the coronavirus to change blood cells. According to them, this explains the increased risk of vascular occlusion and pulmonary embolism in COVID-19, as well as oxygen deficiency in cells.
