Scientists have identified a new dangerous consequence of COVID-19

COVID-19 disease can lead to the development of Guillain-Barré syndrome. Reported by EurekAlert! citing the work of scientists from the University of Birmingham.

One of the study's authors, Alex Richtner, notes that the antibodies produced by the body after COVID-19 have traits similar to antibodies that cause heart and skin disease.

According to the study, the first symptoms of Guillain-Barré disease are numbness in the feet and hands, muscle weakness and pain, and coordination problems. They were identified in study participants who had undergone mild to severe coronavirus.

Guillain-Barré syndrome is an acute autoimmune inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy, manifested by flaccid paresis, sensitivity disorders, and autonomic disorders.

Scientists have previously figured out how the coronavirus affects the brain.
