Moscow. August 27. INTERFAX.RU – Scientists of the Institute of Cytology and Genetics have analyzed the complete genomes of microorganisms from the caldera of the Uzon volcano (Kamchatka), according to the publication of the SB RAS “Science in Siberia”.

The caldera ( from Spanish – bowl, cauldron ) of the Uzon volcano is a bowl-shaped basin 9×12 km in size. Uzon is a destroyed extinct volcano located on the territory of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve south of Lake Kronotsky on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

“In the course of this study, scientists have found many new microbes. Including those that are good producers of lactic acid. Some of the microorganisms found can be used as producers of sources for the chemical industry,” – said in the message.

Scientists have also found a structure that can produce enzymes for synthetic detergents.

“Now we are talking about how to make enzymes for synthetic detergents that could function in the conditions of real laundry washing. We found such a structure. We received information about its stability, and then we moved on to creating producers that are capable of such enzymes to produce “, – says Sergey Peltek, head of the ICG biotechnology laboratory.

Researchers are also looking for new yeast strains that are promising for biotechnological applications. In addition, they are preparing an Internet resource for the identification of microbes by mass spectrometric analysis.
