American scientists have discovered an antibody that can neutralize all known coronavirus mutations. The discovery was made by researchers from the University of Washington School of Medicine in St. Louis.
According to the official website of the university, scientists took 43 samples of neutralizing particles for analysis. Each of them tested how well it prevents infection with the original SARS-CoV-2 variant in a petri dish. The nine most powerful neutralizers have moved on to the next stage of testing and tested on rodents.
As a result, it turned out that the SARS2-38 antibody can fight common variants of the coronavirus – “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma”, “delta”, “kappa”, “iota” – as well as rare mutations. Also, the antibody is capable of being effective even at low concentrations and affecting all variants of the infectious agent.
Earlier, WHO named the only way to avoid mutations of the coronavirus. As the website kp.ru wrote, this is the high immunization coverage that all countries must achieve.
