Scientists have found a “superantbody” against coronaviruses

A group of scientists from the Center for Cancer Research in Seattle (USA) have identified an antibody that can fight various types of coronavirus infection, including SARS-CoV2.

According to the study, the results of which are published in the journal Nature, biochemists have studied 12 antibodies that were previously derived from people who have undergone various forms of coronavirus infection.

Scientists have compiled a list of thousands of mutations in the binding domains of various variants of SARS-CoV-2, as well as other viruses that belong to the sarbecovirus group. The study revealed one – S2H97 – capable of attaching to the binding domains of all sarbecoviruses, while neutralizing their effect in living cells. Experts called it a “super-body” because of its versatility.

“This is the coolest antibody we've studied,” said study co-author Tyler Starr.

It is noted that the other 11 antibodies can also be used in the fight against coronavirus. However, according to experts, their effectiveness will be lower compared to S2H97. At the same time, scientists cannot yet claim that the “super-body” is capable of protecting the human body from new strains, but this discovery will make it possible to advance in the fight against mutations of this virus.

We will remind, earlier scientists found out that the symptoms of coronavirus can be observed within six months from the moment of infection. According to the cited data, in Singapore, lingering symptoms were observed in one in ten.
