Scientists have explained why humans will never catch up with a domestic cat

Even the fastest man on the planet will never be able to not only overtake, but also catch up with an ordinary domestic cat. This was proved by the University of Stuttgart in Germany and published the results of their research in the Journal of Theoretical Biology .

The speed of the eight-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt, which reaches 43.5 kilometers per hour, is still less than the speed of an ordinary domestic cat, not to mention competing with the fastest animals on Earth – cheetahs or antelopes.

Experts have created a biomechanical model, which consists of 40 different parameters – body size and structure, leg length, muscle density, power balance and many others. They all explain what provides the fastest running speed in humans and what limits it.

A person's speed is limited due to air resistance and inertia, which increases in proportion to body weight, writes the Federal News Agency. The experiment showed that animals whose bodies are parallel to the surface have flexible spines. That is why they run faster than people.

American scientists have found that cats do not like to work for food. If they have two options – to eat for free or for work, then they will unconditionally prefer the first option. It was also possible to establish that the human genome has a lot in common with the feline. It turned out that the similarities are even greater than in the pairs “man – dog” and “man – rat”.
