Scientists have discovered the secret of the sound of Stradivari violins

Biochemistry professor Joseph Nagivari said that scientists managed to uncover the secret of the unique sound of Antonio Stradivari's violins, reports the Daily Mail.

It is reported that Nagivari 40 years ago suggested that the secret of the sound of the violins of Stradivari and another master of the Cremona school, Giuseppe Guarneri, was of chemical origin.

Scientists found that to protect against parasites, wood was impregnated with a special chemical composition, which included alum, borax, copper, lime water (calcium hydroxide solution) and zinc.

“The craftsmen probably realized that the salts they were using gave the wood additional mechanical strength and acoustic benefits,” Nagiwari explained.

Earlier, a violinist from the United States, during a trip to Germany, forgot a Stradivarius violin in a train car.

The musician came from Mannheim to Saarbrücken on tour and left the famous master's violin in her luggage on the train. Police officers were able to find the tool before the train departed back to Mannheim.
