The Phys.org edition has published material about the scientific work of an international group of astronomers who have revealed the nature of the mysterious cosmic radiation.
The aim of the scientific work was to identify the source of high-energy gamma radiation. In the course of their scientific work, they monitored a cluster of powerful pulsars using the HAWC (High Altitude Water Cherenkov Experiment) gamma-ray observatory. It turned out that the mysterious cosmic radiation is formed by plerions, which, in turn, are powered by energy from the wind of the pulsar.
“ We believe that ultra-high energy radiation appears to be a common feature for these objects. Gamma rays are likely created by interactions in the pulsar wind. This allows us to create a more complete picture of how the most energetic gamma rays ever found in our galaxy are created , ”said Kelly Malone, lead author of the new study on gamma rays from pulsars.
