The plant Nigella sativa or nigella sativa has substances that can fight coronavirus infection, scientists from the Australian Catholic University (ACU) found.
Nigella sativa is native to North Africa and Western Asia. The plant contains thymoquinone, which, by binding to the S-protein of COVID-19, blocks lung infection and even a cytokine storm that occurs in patients with severe coronavirus, writes the MedicalXpress journal.
Among the properties of thymoquinone, scientists have also found the ability to prevent the release of chemicals that provoke inflammation. Experts believe that it can be used in the future in the treatment of allergies, asthma, eczema, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis and other diseases.
As the website kp.ru wrote, earlier European scientists during laboratory tests confirmed the effectiveness of wormwood extract in the treatment of coronavirus.
