Scientists have discovered a new species of fish that live in the Bering Sea

A new species of sea slugs that are found in the Bering Sea was discovered by specialists from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanology (VNIRO), RIA Novosti reports.

Scientists indicated that the new organism was in water at a depth of over 800 meters.

“A specimen belonging to this genus, which differed in its characteristics from the known species, was found during a trawl bottom survey in the northwestern part of the Bering Sea,” the researchers noted, who named the new species after the Russian and Soviet ichthyologist Pyotr Schmidt.

We add that up to 32 genera and more than 400 species belong to the family of sea slugs. These fish live in temperate and cold sea waters and at the depths of the ocean. Scientists are interested in sea slugs due to the fact that these fish do not have external skeletal elements.

Researchers have previously figured out how sea slugs survive at depths of over six kilometers. It turned out that they had developed a number of genetic mutations that allow them to adapt to extreme conditions.

And in Ecuador, scientists have discovered a new species of frog, which is named after the British rock band Led Zeppelin – Pristimantis ledzeppelin.
