Scientists have discovered a link between blood type and coronavirus. The researchers published the results of their work in the journal of the American Society of Hematology Blood Advances, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the results obtained, the viral RBD domain prefers antigens of the second blood group. The virus uses the RBD protein complex to bind to host cells, and the strength of its binding affects the ease of infection in humans. Nevertheless, according to scientists, their study does not allow us to understand how the disease will proceed in a patient, but it makes it possible to assess the influence of the blood group factor on this process. It is noted that this study can help determine who exactly is most prone to contracting the virus or the manifestation of certain symptoms.
Earlier, the general practitioner of the European Medical Center Anna Kulinkovich spoke about the connection between the blood type and the severity of COVID-19. According to her, the data of the studies carried out to date do not allow making unambiguous conclusions, however, the works demonstrate the presence of certain trends.
