Scientists have developed an interface for typing with the power of thought
American scientists have created an interface that allows you to turn the mental movement of a hand with a pen into text on the screen, RIA Novosti reports, citing the results of a study published in the scientific journal Nature.
This development makes it possible to return the ability to communicate to patients who are unable to move and speak due to injuries or serious illnesses, but still continue to mentally perform the usual movements, including those associated with writing letters by hand.
With the help of miniature sensors implanted in the brain, specialists were able to decipher such brain activity and convert it into text.
The study notes that this way of “writing” was more effective than previous designs based on mental movements of the mouse cursor and selection of characters. As specified, the previous “typing” speed record was 40 characters per minute, now it is 90.
We will remind, earlier in the company of Elon Musk F Neuralink reported on the successful implantation of a chip to the monkey, which will allow her to play video games “by the power of thought.”
