Experts from the Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital and the Quebec Institute for Artificial Intelligence have built a neural network on the same principle by which the human brain functions. The neural network built according to this model showed a response to cognitive load, which was never given by standard systems.
Scientists have studied data from many studies of magnetic resonance imaging, on the basis of which they reconstructed the patterns of brain connections and built a system of I / O modules, similar to a real brain. To check the quality of the links, we moved away from simple bit-by-bit data fixation. Therefore, the system was tested on how it will cope with remembering and interpreting the information received.
As the source notes, in the end, scientists came to the conclusion that the neuromorphic system, which they built on the model of human brain connections, copes with the cognitive load better than neural networks do without reference to the organization of real human brain connections.
The authors of the project claim that it is unique, and further experiments should bring specialists closer to creating better artificial intelligence. “The project combines two powerful scientific disciplines. Neuroscience and artificial intelligence have common roots, but recently they have diverged. Using artificial neural networks will help us understand how the structure of the brain ensures the implementation of its functions. In turn, using empirical data to create neural networks will open up design principles for creating better artificial intelligence. Thus, these areas will help each other and enrich our understanding of the brain, ”said one of the authors of the project, Bratislav Misic.
