Austrian scientists have described the main manifestations of a mild form of coronavirus. Experts from the Center for Pathophysiology, Infectious Diseases and Immunology of the Medical University of Vienna published their research in the journal Allergy.
According to experts, the manifestations of the virus can be divided into the following seven groups: flu symptoms, cold symptoms, joint and muscle pain, inflammation of the eyes and mucous membranes, breathing problems, diarrhea and nausea, and loss of smell and taste.
Researchers believe that such a separation is necessary for the correct diagnosis of the primary disease. They also discovered a number of biomarkers that should help with vaccine development and virus monitoring.
Earlier, scientists from the University of Michigan explained why coronavirus infection causes the formation of blood clots, leading to dire consequences for patients. It turned out that COVID-19 can provoke the appearance of autoimmune bodies that circulate in the blood, attack cells and cause blood clots in arteries, veins and microscopic vessels. Blood clots can lead to strokes and can also restrict blood flow, reducing oxygen access to cells.
