Scientists have called overweight people super-proliferators of COVID-19

Scientists have named overweight people as super-spreaders of COVID-19. This is stated in a study conducted by specialists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard.

According to the results obtained, people with a high body mass index (BMI) and the elderly excrete the most respiratory droplets containing virus particles. According to scientists, in different patients, the amount of exhaled aerosol particles can differ hundreds of times. So, according to the study, only 18 percent of people accounted for 80% of the exhaled bioaerosol, which proves the phenomenon of super-proliferation.

Experts believe that super-proliferation is associated with damage to the mucous membranes from coronavirus, which is observed in the elderly and overweight people in a more severe form. It is noted that the severity of the course of the disease also affects the rate of spread. If the lungs are severely affected, the person can become a super-spreader.

Earlier, the head physician of the Moscow hospital No. 71 and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov said that the world was covered by an obesity epidemic, which is invisible, but much more dangerous than the coronavirus. According to the doctor, nearly 40 percent of the world's population is overweight. Myasnikov stressed that when people develop obesity, excess weight further leads to diabetes, heart attacks, strokes and cancer.
