Scientists at the University of Virginia in the United States have discovered genes that are responsible for weight gain. This was reported by the press service of the university with reference to a study published in the journal PLOS Genetics.
Researchers have found that there are 293 genes that, in one way or another, affect a person's body weight. Of these, 14 contribute to the development of obesity, and three prevent weight gain. Scientists believe that their discovery will accelerate the development of treatments for obesity. It is noted that the study was conducted on worms, 70 percent of the genes of which coincide with humans.

Researchers at Harvard, Cornell and UCLA have teamed up with colleagues to come up with a new explanation for obesity, based on the carbohydrate-insulin model, which they believe better explains the disease and its biological causes.
