Moscow. 6 September. INTERFAX.RU – Scientists from Russia and the United States became laureates of the Global Energy International Energy Prize, an Interfax correspondent who attended the ceremony said.
Two of the three laureates were also announced: the head of the laboratory of controlled photobiosynthesis of the Institute of Plant Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Suleiman Allakhverdiev and the chief researcher of the Stanford Institute of Materials Science and Energy Yi Tsui.
Allakhverdiev will receive an award in the category “Non-traditional energy” for an outstanding contribution to the development of alternative energy, scientific achievements in the design of artificial photosynthesis systems, a series of scientific works in the field of bio- and hydrogen energy.
Cui won the “New Ways to Generate Energy” category for exceptional contributions to the development of nanomaterials for energy and the environment, innovation in battery science.
The winner in the category “Traditional Energy” was announced on September 3 at the session of the Eastern Economic Forum. Zinfer Ismagilov, Director of the Institute of Coal Chemistry and Chemical Materials Science of the Federal Research Center for Coal and Coal Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, for his fundamental contribution to the chemistry of carbon materials, heterogeneous catalysis and the fight against climate change.
The prize fund is 39 million rubles. The awards ceremony will take place at Russian Energy Week in October.
This year, 94 scientists from 36 countries of the world were nominated for the prize. Since 2003, 45 scientists from 15 countries have become laureates of the award.
The Global Energy Association was founded in 2002 to support research in the energy sector; its members are PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Surgutneftegaz and PJSC FGC UES.
