Scientists found out when the first tetrapods on Earth came to land

When did tetrapods separate from fish? A group of researchers from Harvard University found this out.

In a study published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, the authors determined the most accurate time frame for the appearance of the first tetrapods. They also said that the fish had to develop the correct anatomy before approaching landfall.

“We were able to establish a very accurate age of the origin of tetrapods – about 390 million years ago, which is 15 million years older than the most ancient fossil remains of such creatures,” the scientists said.

The researchers used mathematical modeling to estimate the rate of evolution of the legs and combined it with data from known fossils. Also, scientists saw that tetrapods developed quite quickly after they separated from the fish.
