Scientists discover the northernmost island on Earth
Scientists from Denmark and Sweden accidentally discovered the northernmost island in the world during an expedition to Greenland, Reuters reports.
Initially, a group of six scientists went to work in the area of the island of Oodaak, it was he who was previously considered the most northern on Earth. So, upon arrival, the scientists checked the coordinates and it turned out that they landed at a site that is 780 meters northwest of Oodaak.
The area of the found territory is approximately 60 by 30 meters, it is covered with gravel and mud. The researchers proposed to name the island Kekertak Avannarleg, which means “the northernmost island” in Greenlandic.
Earlier, the traveler Fyodor Konyukhov went to the northernmost point of the Earth on the atomic icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy”.
