Scientists: daily brushing can extend human life

A simple habit that does not take more than 4 minutes a day will increase a person's life expectancy, British doctors say. The Express edition, citing research data published in the British Medical Journal, indicates that this habit is not associated with traditional diets and increased physical activity.

Of course, proper nutrition and exercise are good for your health. But there are also other factors that help protect the body from chronic diseases that erode the body from the inside. For example, cardiovascular disease is considered one of the most common causes of death. But risk factors for their development can be prevented. In addition to proper diet and exercise, new research suggests that risk can be reduced … by simply brushing your teeth twice a day.

British physicians relied on data from the Scottish Health Survey, which studied the population living in Scottish households. A survey was conducted of 11,869 people, whose average age was 50 years. The frequency of tooth brushing was assessed according to the following parameters:

Twice a day; Once a day; Less than once a day.

In addition to the dental survey, information was collected on family history of cardiovascular diseases, blood pressure, and blood samples were taken.

Over 8 years of observation, 555 cases of heart and vascular diseases were recorded, of which 170 were fatal. It turned out that study participants who reported poor oral hygiene had an increased risk of developing cardiovascular pathologies.

“Poor oral hygiene is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease and mild inflammation, although the causal nature of this relationship has not yet been determined,” the researchers concluded.

Doctors advise – brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes to maintain the health of both teeth and the oral cavity in general. If this is not done, then an inflammatory process can develop due to plaque, which will cause not only problems with the oral cavity, but also with the body as a whole.
