Scientists: Cats don't like to work for food
Scientists from the University of California at Davis have found that if cats have two options – to eat for free or for work, they will unconditionally prefer the first option, according to Phys.org.
The uniqueness of this study lies in the fact that most other animals strive to work for the sake of lunch. This is because they enjoy solving puzzles, solving problems and satisfying interest. Rats, birds, fish, monkeys, domestic goats, wolves, giraffes and chimpanzees have repeatedly proven their willingness to work for food as part of the experiment.
The cats turned out to be hopeless lazy people. 17 pussies were asked to eat from an open bowl or from a bowl with a puzzle – and the results were impressive.
“It's not that cats don't use the food puzzle at all. But the cats ate more food from the available litter box, spent more time near it, and made the first choice in favor of food from the litter box over puzzle food, ”the study said.
However, most of the mustachioed subjects knew how to solve the puzzle. Scientists can only speculate why they did not evaluate their own strengths and control the receipt of resources, as other animals do. Perhaps it's because of uninteresting puzzles. And it is possible that the intelligence of cats is similar to the IQ of a three-year-old child – this, by the way, was proved by British scientists.
