Nicola Cazule, head of research at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, said some Pacific island states would become uninhabitable as a result of global warming. Reported by The Guardian.
For a long time these territories have been negatively affected by strong sea tides, prolonged droughts, and powerful cyclones. Also in these countries, salinization of groundwater is observed, this harms agriculture.
In addition, another unfavorable factor is the rise in the level of the World Ocean, due to which many islands are gradually sinking under water. It is noted that these natural phenomena will occur more and more often against the background of global warming.
“This will make places like Kiribati, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands uninhabitable,” Kazule said.
Earlier it was reported that satellite observations by NASA confirmed for the first time that the Earth's mesosphere at an altitude of 50-80 kilometers above the surface is contracting due to cooling. This effect was predicted by models of human-induced climate change, but it has so far been difficult to track the global trend over time, as the mesosphere also fluctuates due to natural cycles such as solar.
