A senior researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexander Chernokulsky, predicted the Earth's “return” 35 million years ago. Reported by RIA Novosti.
The specialist said that now the global temperature is growing in the worst-case scenario due to greenhouse gas emissions. According to him, in the coming years, it can reach the indicators that were noted on Earth 35 million years ago.
At the same time, the scientist noted that the global temperature is a climatic indicator, and its change will not lead to the appearance of giant rhinos on the planet. He added that in those days there were not so many glaciers, and there were different ocean levels, the location of the continents and the chemical composition of the atmosphere.
Earlier, Russians were described the devastating consequences of global warming for the country. Vladimir Semyonov, head of the climatology laboratory at the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, deputy director of the Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said that summers in Russia are getting hotter, and periods of prolonged and warm weather are becoming more frequent. Such a heat, according to Semenov, threatens forest fires, the range of which in Siberia has already expanded to the north.
