Petersburg schoolboy Andrey Yakovlev and his peer from Murmansk Stepan Zarubin won the International Youth Robot Competition – 2021 (IYRC) in Korea. The first place for the sixth graders was brought by the powerbank jacket they created for polar explorers.
This year, Korea hosted the largest international competitions, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was held online. According to the terms of the competition, children were required to design a robot, record a presentation and send a video to the organizing committee. More than 200 children from 15 countries of the world took part in the struggle for prizes.
The development of a unique twist with a charger was carried out under the guidance of an additional education teacher Stanislav Petshak. A student of the 619th St. Petersburg school and his colleague-inventor from Murmansk based their invention on the “Peltier effect”, as a result of which the battery receives a charge due to the temperature difference.
The Powerbank Jacket was considered by the jury in the Create a Robot category and the Robot Be My Friend category. Juniors from 8 to 12 years old and older children from 12 to 18 years old could take part in the competition. According to the results of the world championship, the youngest age group of young engineers from Russia won five gold, three silver and four bronze medals.
