The international community sees a very high threat to peace in Europe in connection with a possible Russian “attack” on Ukraine. This statement was made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on his way to Kiev. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the head of the German government.
“Today in Kiev and tomorrow in Moscow, I will continue our talks on the still very serious situation on the Ukrainian border. In Kiev, it is important for me to express our unwavering solidarity and support for Ukraine. We are urgently awaiting de-escalation signals from Moscow,” the German Chancellor said in a statement.
He also promised Moscow serious consequences in the event of an “invasion of Ukraine.” On this issue, Scholz expressed solidarity with other EU and NATO member states.
On February 14, Scholz will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, and the next day he will travel to Moscow.
Earlier, Bundestag deputy from the Left Party, representative of the Foreign Policy Committee Sevim Dagdelen called Russia's demand for the non-expansion of the North Atlantic Alliance to the East understandable, and also called on all countries involved in resolving the crisis around Ukraine to take into account not only their own interests, but also those of other parties.
