According to the German Chancellor, Putin may abandon the war of aggression against Ukraine.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Russian dictator Putin will think about ending the war in Ukraine only when he realizes that he cannot win it.
The politician stated this during a speech at a meeting of European Social Democrats in Bucharest on Saturday, reports Reuters.
He noted that Germany will continue to make its efforts to support Ukraine in the war against Russian aggressors and called on other countries to do the same.
“The war in Ukraine will end the moment Putin decides to withdraw his troops. However, he will only make this decision when he realizes that he cannot win the war on the battlefield,” Scholz said.< /p>
He stated that Germany had by this time allocated military support to Kyiv in the amount of 28 billion euros.
Scholz also noted that Western support for Ukraine is “the key to restoring peace” in Europe.
“We will support it as long as it is necessary,” emphasized the head of the German government.
In addition, he said that to prevent escalation, including a potential conflict between Russia and NATO, what he called “effective deterrence” is necessary.
“That's why we invest more in our own security and defense together as Europeans, so that no one dares to attack us,” he said.
Recall that it was previously reported that Scholz made an important statement on assistance to Ukraine before the EU leaders' summit.
In addition, we previously reported that Scholz called for support for Ukraine and explained why this is important.
