According to the German Chancellor, peace is more than just the absence of war.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that immediate a ceasefire without a road map to lasting peace will entail the development of a scenario that is “unfairly dangerous” not only for Ukraine, but for the whole of Europe and even the world.
He spoke about this during his speech at the peace summit, which began on June 15 in Switzerland.
According to him, peace is more than just the absence of war.
“An immediate ceasefire without serious negotiations, without a road map to a just and lasting the world will simply legitimize Russia’s seizure of Ukrainian land and lead to a new frozen conflict,” emphasized Olaf Scholz.
The German Chancellor recalled that before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, both the EU and the United States were ready to discuss security issues that worried Moscow. However, according to him, Russia chose war rather than diplomacy and dialogue.
“Let me be clear. Regardless of any security concerns, none of them can justify invading a peaceful neighboring state. I would like to emphasize that Ukraine is a victim of aggression that had the courage to present world plan for peace,” added Scholz.
Recall that French President Emmanuel Macron said at the peace summit in Switzerland that only assistance in repelling Russian aggression can be a prerequisite for peace in Ukraine.
