Scholz named another reason why Germany does not supply tanks to Ukraine

20-30% of German society is against anti-Russian sanctions and arms supplies to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that when deciding whether to provide tanks to Ukraine, Germany also takes into account the opinion of those countries that oppose Russian sanctions and the supply of weapons to Kyiv.

The German leader said this in interview with Welt.

“Logistics, spare parts, ammunition for these tanks of Russian or post-Soviet production are in Ukraine. We are trying to supply from other countries. But the fact remains: the question of what weapons we supply, is based on a very clear principle – do not act alone “- he said.

According to Scholz, from 20-30% of German society is against anti-Russian sanctions and the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Therefore, he also takes into account the opinion German citizens when making a decision.

“I argue with those who have doubts and explain the reasons for our decisions so that both of them are convinced of this. There are a lot of people who think that the government’s balanced course is correct. So the opinion is very broad. We should not let this out of sight, if we want to stick together as a society,” Scholz explained.

Germany's promises to provide tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On October 8, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced the provision of a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia, as well as IRIS-T air defense systems. On October 11, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that Germany had handed over to Ukraine IRIS-T, which are already in use on the territory of Ukraine.
