According to Olaf Scholz, the meeting in Bürgenstock will, at best, mark the beginning of a process that could lead to direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz does not expect the Ukraine peace conference to be held in Switzerland in June to achieve a breakthrough in ending Russian invasions.

Deutsche Welle Ukraine writes about this.

“No one should have excessive expectations. We are not negotiating the end of the war,” he said in an interview with the German weekly Stern, published on Tuesday, May 14.

According to him, the meeting in Bürgenstock “at best will mark the beginning of a process that could lead to direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.”

“In Switzerland we will talk about the safety of nuclear power plants, about grain exports, about the issue of prisoner exchange and about the necessary taboo on the use of nuclear weapons,” AFP quotes the chancellor as saying.

Recall that Olaf Scholz, during a meeting with the heads of government of the Nordic countries, assured that Germany will continue to support Ukraine. In particular, to provide military assistance.
