German Chancellor Olaf Scholz laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Earlier it became known that Scholz, who arrived in Moscow, refused the Russian PCR test for COVID-19. The politician was tested for coronavirus, necessary for access to the Kremlin, by a doctor from the German Embassy. According to members of the chancellor's entourage, Russian doctors were invited to supervise the testing.

A visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden of the Kremlin was noted by other Western politicians who visited Moscow. On February 10, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss laid flowers at the Tomb, and on January 18, this gesture was made by German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock.

On February 15, a meeting of the leaders of Russia and Germany will take place in Moscow. Scholz is expected to declare the unacceptability of a Russian troop buildup on the border with Ukraine and warn of a readiness to impose “painful sanctions” in the event of an invasion of the country.
