German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed hope that the withdrawal of Russian troops from the borders of Ukraine will continue. His words were heard during a speech at a press conference following talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The speech of the two leaders is available on RBC's YouTube channel.
In addition, the head of the German government called what is happening a good sign and expressed readiness, together with partners and allies in the EU and NATO, to talk about steps to strengthen common security. Scholz assured that the dialogue with Russia would be conducted in the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual recognition of the principles agreed within the OSCE.
He noted that these principles include the inviolability of the borders and sovereignty of all states, including Ukraine. “I would very much like to discuss these things within the framework of the dialogue. We must not reach a dead end that will turn into disaster for us. It is absolutely clear for the German government that aggression against Ukraine will entail grave consequences,” the German Chancellor added.
On February 15, negotiations took place between Putin and Scholz in the Moscow Kremlin. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the negotiations between politicians lasted a little more than three hours. It is noted that Putin and Scholz began a one-on-one conversation in the representative office of the first building of the Kremlin. After that, the negotiations continued in the format of a working breakfast.
