Scholz believes that the debate about sending troops is premature now.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany will not send peacekeepers to Ukraine while the war is ongoing.
This was reported by the publication Spiegel.
Scholz clarified that the issue of a peacekeeping mission would only become relevant after the end of the war.
“While the war rages, there will be no soldiers from Germany or German ground forces in Ukraine. For the period after that, we should talk about the discussed security guarantees so that Ukraine can be sure that Russia will not attack it for the third time, as in 2014 and 2022,” the Chancellor said.
Scholz emphasized that possible security guarantees will be discussed with the Ukrainian side.
Recall that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius made an encouraging statement about German peacekeepers in Ukraine.
