Chief of Scholz's administration compared Leopard tanks to V-2 missiles Nazis. The German government has already criticized this statement.
The head of the Bundestag Defense Committee, Marie-Agyness Strack-Zimmermann, criticized the statements of the head of the administration of Chancellor Germany Wolfgang Schmidt, who compared tanks Leopard 2 with Nazi V-2 rockets in the context of the transfer of equipment to Ukraine.
The German portal Spiegel writes about this.
“I would like to offer Wolfgang Schmidt a collegiate acquaintance with weapons. Then he will quickly realize that the comparison with Nazi weapons is not only completely inappropriate, but simply wrong,” said Strack- Zimmerman.
At an event in Berlin, Schmidt defended the government's position not to send tanks to Ukraine to fight against the Russian Federation. He stated that the Leopard 2 is now as much hoped for as the Nazis were for the V-2 rocket in the last century.
“Sometimes I tend to call it V2 syndrome in the Germans, that there is a miracle weapon that, like magic, does everything possible. And now Leopard 2 is a miracle weapon that will end the war,” said Schmidt.
Note that in Nazi terminology, V2 means Vergeltungswaffe 2. Literally, this translates as a weapon of retaliation. Nazi Germany repeatedly used it against civilian targets.
What is known about military assistance from Germany
On October 8, German Defense Minister Christina Lambrecht announced the provision of a total of 100 tanks from Greece and Slovakia, as well as IRIS-T air defense systems.
Already on October 11, Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov announced that Germany had transferred IRIS-T to Ukraine. He added that the American NASAMS medium-range air defense systems are “already leaving.”
The IRIS-T air defense system has very powerful characteristics, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted. The complex has good radars and missiles.
