The German chancellor did not say whether Putin responded to the call.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine and withdraw all troops from the country. This happened during the G20 with the participation of the head of Russia.
Scholz himself told reporters about this at a press conference in Berlin together with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Barrons reports.
“I called on President Putin to stop the attack on Ukraine and withdraw his troops so that this war can finally end,” Scholz said.
At the same time, Maloney welcomed Putin's proposal to “work for peace in Ukraine,” but added that “we must not forget that Ukraine is the side suffering from aggression, the side that was attacked.”
“It’s easy enough for Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine,” Maloney said.
Let us recall that Russian President Putin did not attend the last two G20 summits, held in September 2023 in India and in 2022 in Indonesia. Instead, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attended the events.
Since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for the Russian dictator for the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children, Putin has not traveled much outside of Russia.
It was previously reported that US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping refused to speak at the event.
Dictator President Vladimir Putin said Russia had never abandoned “peace talks” with Ukraine.
