Polish media reported how a state-owned company sold spare parts for drones to Iran
According to ZET Radio journalist Mariusz Gierszewski, a Polish state-owned company from Poznan sold fuel pumps that went into Iranian Shahed-136 combat drones, which were used by Russia during the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He convinces that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers shot down an Iranian drone in the Kharkov region in the fall of 2022 and found parts from Poland there.
According to information received by the journalist, the fuel pumps were manufactured by Wytwórnia Sprzętu Komunikacyjnego – Poznań Sp. z oo, owned by the Industrial Development Agency. These parts were sold to Iran Motorsazan, a manufacturer of agricultural tractors, from where they ended up in Iranian factories producing military drones, which were then acquired by Russia.
The case was discovered by the Homeland Security Agency. In February 2023, charges were brought against the President of WSK Poznań, Renata S., for violating the law “On Foreign Trade in Goods, Technologies and Services of Strategic Importance for State Security.” For this she faces up to 10 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing and will continue until September 30, 2024.
Reaction of the Polish prosecutor's office
The representative of the National Prosecutor's Office, prosecutor Przemyslaw Nowak, during a press conference on Thursday, commented on the case of a state-owned company from Poznan accused of selling parts for the Iranian Shahed-136 drones, which Russia uses in the war in Ukraine. The prosecutor noted that the proceedings concerned the sale of fuel pumps, and not their use in the production of drones.
“Of course, I'm not saying they weren't used, only that there's no evidence of it,” he explained.
According to Nowak, the prosecutor’s office has been investigating the case of one of the Poznan companies that exported such products without the necessary permission for two years. He added that the owner of the company had already given detailed explanations. She faces up to 10 years in prison.
When asked by journalists whether this procedure is a violation of sanctions against Russia, the prosecutor found it difficult to answer. However, he noted that the proceedings are largely confidential.
Reaction of a company accused of cooperation with Iran
The company has also already responded to the accusations.
“The board of WSK-Poznan is making every effort to clarify the matter of the export of parts to Iran and declares its openness to cooperation with the authorities conducting the investigation,” company management said on Thursday.
