A Milan court ordered journalist Giulia Cortese to pay Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Maloney compensation in the amount of 5,000 euros for ridiculing an official in her publication on social networks.
This was reported by the ANSA news agency and other local media, Reuters reports.
Italian journalist Giulia Cortese made fun of Maloney on the social network X (formerly Twitter) back in October 2021. In the post, she wrote, in particular, about the prime minister’s height.
Cortese tweeted a photo of Meloni with Benito Mussolini in the background. To Maloney's indignation, she replied: “You don't scare me, George Maloney. After all, you're only 1.2 m tall. I can't even see you.”
Maloney filed a lawsuit against the journalist.
In response to a Reuters story about the verdict, Cortese wrote on her X page: “The Italian government has serious problems with freedom of expression and journalistic dissent.”
Note that, according to information on the Internet, Meloni is 1.63 m tall.
We also add that Cortese can challenge the verdict. And Meloni's lawyer said that Madam Prime Minister will donate to charity any compensation she ultimately receives in this case.
Recall that recently the head of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, met with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in the US capital and received information about the situation at the front.
