Scandal in Hungary: PM Orban speaks out against 'race-mixing' in Europe

The Hungarian Prime Minister made a big statement against 'race-mixing'.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that European races should not mix with non-European ones. His statement caused a wave of criticism.

The Guardian writes about this.

It is noted that Viktor Orban said this during the annual speech in Baile Tushnada (Romania), where he previously spoke with the main political ideas and ideological directions. In the same place, in 2014, he first stated that he wanted to build an “illiberal democracy” in Hungary.

“We (Hungarians – ed.) are not mixed race … and we do not want to become mixed race,” Orban said during his speech.

He added that countries where Europeans and non-Europeans mix are “no longer nations.”

Viktor Orban has made similar statements more than once, but the aforementioned British publication calls the last comments formulated in especially sharp ultra-right terms.

Opposition parties and European politicians immediately reacted to the high-profile statement of the Hungarian prime minister.

Thus, MEP from the opposition Momentum party Katalin Cech said she was amazed by the speech of the prime minister.

< p>“His statements are reminiscent of a time that I think we would all like to forget. They really show the real face of the regime,” she said.

Romanian MEP Alin Mituta also reacted to Orban's comments.

“Talking about racial or ethnic 'purity', especially in a region as mixed as Central and Eastern Europe, is misleading and dangerous,” he tweeted.
