Scandal in Germany: the leader of the CDU said that it is easier for refugees than Germans to get to the dentist

The leader of the CDU party, to which ex-Chancellor Merkel belonged, got into a scandal after criticizing Berlin's migration policy.

A fellow party member of ex-Chancellor Merkel, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Friedrich Merz got into a scandal after he said that there are far more asylum seekers in Germany It’s easier to get an appointment with a dentist than for German citizens.

This is reported by Spiegel.

“People are going crazy when they see that 300 thousand asylum seekers are refused (asylum – Ed.), but do not leave the country and receive full assistance,” – Merz said on the Welt-Talk television channel. “They sit at the doctor and have their teeth repaired, and the German citizens living next door do not receive an appointment.”

German politicians’ reaction to the statement

The head of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelow, said that Merz with such statements “is making the case for the AfD” (the right-wing populist party “Alternative for Germany”) and reinforces the narratives being promoted, and this distracts attention from the real problems of the German health care system.

Leader of the Green Party Ricarda Lang accused the CDU leader of deliberately pitting groups against each other and disseminating this false information.

Merz's fellow party members began to defend him. Thus, the head of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hendrik Wüst (CDU), said that Merz only wanted to draw attention to the overall burden that falls on the state, society and social systems due to the sharp increase in illegal migration.

Merz previously criticized Ukrainian refugees

We recall that last fall Friedrich Merz accused Ukrainian refugees of “social tourism.”

“We are now seeing social tourism from these refugees: to Germany, back to Ukraine, to Germany, back to Ukraine,” Merz said. He was subsequently forced to apologize for this statement.
